The ancient Greek poet Archilochus observed “a fox knows many things but a hedgehog one important thing.”
Foxes draw on a wide variety of experiences and believe the world cannot be boiled down to a single idea. Some foxes are: Aristotle, Shakespeare, Montaigne, Molière, James Joyce.
Hedgehogs view the world through a single defining idea. Some hedgehogs include: Plato, Dante, Hegel, Nietzsche, Marcel Proust.
In our complicated world today, we cannot be exclusively a fox or a hedgehog; we must be both. We must forage like a FoxHog.
